OKeh Records Cabaret and Style Show 100th Anniversary Celebration with Cat and the Hounds!
On June 12, 1926, Louis Armstrong and His Hot Five made one of their only live appearances at OKeh Records’ Cabaret and Style Show, an all-star event held at the Chicago Coliseum. More than 20,000 people attended the spectacular evening, which featured not only Armstrong, but many of the era’s biggest stars, including King Oliver, Richard M. Jones, Bertha “Chippie” Hill, Butterbeans and Susie, Erskine Tate, and more.
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of this historic event, the Louis Armstrong Center presents a special concert featuring legendary vocalist Catherine Russell backed by Colin Hancock’s Jazz Hounds. Fresh off the success of their critically acclaimed 2025 album, Cat and the Hounds bring the sounds of 1920s Chicago vividly back to life in Queens.
As a special pre-show event, Matthew Rivera will spin original Hot Five 78s from June 1926 beginning at 5:15 p.m. Showtime is at 6 p.m.
